MORNING GLORY

…Chased the sun to watch it set
a thousand times
Accelerator lighting silhouetted wicks
of pines and appled hills
Then stop to see the earth revolve
and snuff it out
A thousand times, a thousand times.

We touched a hundred miles of road
from tar to dust
Until the car had climbed as high as we were high
Then watched the fire consumed
exhaustively a final time
And turned, our urgent retinas burned
to face the east, sunsets ablaze
upon our mind, anxious of a
gentler rising.
